An inception meeting for the National Agroecology Community of Practice (CoP), organised by LI-BIRD, was held on 20 March 2026 and successfully brought together various CSOs, media, academia, and other organizations, as well as individuals working on agroecology.
During the event, the participants reached a strong consensus on the need for such a platform to promote knowledge sharing, co-creation, common understanding, dialogue, and capacity building in agroecology. While multiple networks already exist, the CoP will leverage these networks to strengthen the broader agroecology movement. The platform will focus on evidence generation, practice sharing, capacity building, and bridging science and farmers’ knowledge, including sharing stories of practitioners.
Concluding the event, it was agreed that the CoP will function through diverse modalities, including virtual webinars and thematic workshops. A core working group was formed, which will develop the ToR, propose operational modalities, and the possible names of the CoP. These proposals will be shared with the wider group, enabling gradual expansion of the network.
This marks an important step toward building a collaborative, knowledge-driven, and action-oriented agroecology movement in Nepal, which connects people, practice, and policy for sustainable food systems.
