The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoLMAC, Gandaki Province and LI-BIRD was concluded on 6th August 2019 in Pokhara. The intent of the MoU is to enhance cooperation and collaboration in agriculture sector in Gandaki Province between the Ministry and LI-BIRD. The MoU was signed by Mr Durga Prasad Dawadi, Secretary, MoLMAC and Dr Balaram Thapa, Executive Director, LI-BIRD. Honorable Minister Mr Lek Bahadur Thapa Magar, Mr Krishna Prasad Baral, LI-BIRD Board Chair and senior staff of the Ministry and LI-BIRD witnessed the event.

The MoU is expected to facilitate greater exchange of knowledge and information for effective implementation of ‘Chief Minister’s Environment Friendly Model Agriculture Village Programme’ (currently implemented in 36 electoral sites in Gandaki Province, and the programme is expected to be extended to additional 36 sites in the near future) through the replication of promising climate smart agricultural technologies and approaches generated by Climate Smart Village (CSV) Programme managed by LI -BIRD. Greater collaboration/cooperation is also expected between the two institutions in the development of ‘Climate Investment Plan (CIP)’ in agriculture sector in Gandaki Province. Both CSV and CIP projects are funded by CGIAR Research Programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) via LI-BIRD. Additionally, the MoU is also expected to generate synergies and leverage resources in the design and implementation of potential future agricultural projects and programmes through the exchange of knowledge, information and technical assistance between the Ministry and LI-BIRD.
