Himalayan Resilience Enabling Action Programme (HI-REAP)

Himalayan Resilience Enabling Action Programme (HI-REAP), managed by ICIMOD and funded by FCDO, is implemented by Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) in Chankheli Rural Municipality of Humla district. The project aims to enhance agriculture resilience by promoting GESI responsive agroecological practices as Nature based Solutions (NbS) with co-benefits for biodiversity and ecosystems, increase in agricultural productivity, and ensuring food and nutritional security. This in turn will support in empowerment of women and marginalized groups in terms of climate change adaptation through integrating agro-ecological practices and NbS into farming.

The project during year 1 worked and supported for the establishment of two Community Learning Centre (CLC); one at Simkot Rural Municipality and other at Kharpunath Rural Municipality along with demonstration of various agroecological and NbS solutions at Horticulture Development Centre, Darma.

In year 2, the project’s focus will be on supporting Karnali Province government in establishing of a model demonstration site at the Horticulture Development Centre, Darma showcasing various agroecological and nature-based solutions. Additionally, one Community Learning Centre will be developed in a nearby community where farmers from the local area and beyond can visit and learn about different agroecological and NbS solutions. The project will also emphasize testing the effectiveness of these solutions through action research and generating evidence to influence policy.
