The 15 days Nutrition Education and Rehabilitation Programme (NERP) Camp at Borta, Himali Rural Municipality Ward-4, Bajura, has come to an effective close on 23rd September 2026 bringing hope, knowledge, care, and healthier futures for children affected by Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). After 15 days of dedicated nutrition support, counselling, care, and monitoring, all 7 (2 boys and 5 girls) children achieved normal nutritional status, based on weight, height/length, MUAC, and age-specific Z-scores.
The 15-Day Learning & Care Journey:
- Days 1-7: Mothers and caregivers received practical education on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, nutritious local foods, responsive childcare, health and hygiene, MIYCF, and home care for malnourished children.
- Day 8: Home visits assessed household practices and provided tailored counselling.
- Days 9-15: Reinforcement, counselling, and rehabilitation support strengthened the application of learned nutrition and childcare practices.
Mothers and caregivers prepared nutritious meals following the 15-day menu using locally available foods. Each child received approximately 700 kcal/day to support nutritional rehabilitation and recovery.
The successful completion of the camp was supported by strong coordination among the Himali Rural Municipality Health Section, Ward Office and Ward Chairperson, Health Facility In-charge, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), mothers, caregivers, and community members.
The NERP Camp was implemented by LI-BIRD in Bajura Districtunder the Better Nutrition Project, a consortium-based initiative funded by the European Union, with technical support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH).
