The Climate Change Management Division (CCMD) under the Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoFE) has been piloting ‘Climate Model Village (CMV) programme’ in eight municipalities across the country. The concept of a model village aims to disseminate and promote low-cost climate smart technologies/practices making community resilient to climate change emerged issues and challenges by focusing on gender and social inclusion. ICIMOD though LIBIRD will provide technical support to the two municipalities of Doti district viz. Jorayal rural municipality and Purvichauki rural municipality (out of eight municipalities that CCMD has been financially supporting under its model village programme) through ‘Resilient Mountain Solutions (RMS)’ in Nepal project.
The major aim of the project is to bridge the gap by providing technical assistance to these rural municipalities for implementation of the Nepal climate model village program. Through this project understanding of RM on climate change and its impact, adaptation measures and solutions will be enhanced and will help on effective planning and prioritization of adaptation activities in the model village. The project will focus on facilitating municipalities in planning, execution and monitoring of climate smart interventions and capacity development of climate vulnerable communities. Also, in each project municipality one village selected under the project will be developed as a climate model village having climate smart technologies/practices demonstrated/adopted addressing the major problem of that area.
