The Climate Change Management Division (CCMD) under the Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoFE) conducted a pilot of the ‘Climate Model Village (CMV) programme’ in eight municipalities across the country. The concept of a model village aimed to disseminate and promote low-cost climate-smart technologies/practices, making the community resilient to climate change-related issues and challenges by focusing on gender and social inclusion. ICIMOD, through LIBIRD, provided technical support to the two municipalities of Doti district: Jorayal Rural Municipality and Purvichauki Rural Municipality (out of eight municipalities that CCMD has been financially supporting under its model village programme) through the ‘Resilient Mountain Solutions (RMS)’ in Nepal project.
The major aim of the project was to bridge the gap by providing technical assistance to these rural municipalities for the implementation of the Nepal climate model village program. Through this project, the understanding of RM on climate change and its impact, adaptation measures, and solutions was enhanced and helped in effective planning and prioritisation of adaptation activities in the model village. The project focused on facilitating municipalities in planning, executing, and monitoring climate-smart interventions and capacity development of climate-vulnerable communities. Also, in each project municipality, one village selected under the project was developed as a climate model village having climate-smart technologies/practices demonstrated/adopted, addressing the major problem of that area.
