Description

Community Biodiversity Management (CBM) is an approach that empowers farming communities to manage local genetic resources for sustainable livelihoods through collective decision-making. Empowerment of farming communities, conservation of agricultural biodiversity and supporting biodiversity-based livelihoods are the three building blocks of CBM approach. CBM can also be considered a process-led methodology that builds on the capacities and interest of farming communities and builds on their existing community structures and therefore, takes time to see results. This publication aims to increase conceptual understanding, basic principles and implementation procedure of CBM among farmers, extension workers and field-based technical assistants.
