Project Title : Strengthening the scientific basic of in-situ conservation of Agricultural Biodiversity: Nepal Country component (Phase - II)

Objectives : 

  • To develop in-situ conservation methods and models (examples) among different crops in Nepal
  • To support the institutionalisation process of in-situ conservation programmes and policies at a national level through increased scientific capacities and representative partnerships
  • The ultimate goal is to strengthen the scientific basis, institutional linkages and policies that support the role of farmers in conservation and use of crop genetic diversity
  • To make provisions of principles, options and approaches to integrate agrobiodiversity in agricultural development available to concerned stakeholders
  • To develop indicators for monitoring impact of in-situ conservation activities on crop diversity and human livelihoods
  • To enhance project management and the strategic decision making capacity in participatory approaches

  • Understanding scientific basis of on-farm conservation through studies on socio-economics;
  • Agro-ecology/Crop biology; Agro-morphological studies; Population biology; PPB;
  • Seed supply and farmers' networks
  •  Adding values through Non-breeding approaches
  •  Capacity building and community participation and Gender and Policy analysis  

Geographical Coverage : Kaski (Begnas VDC) and Bara (Kachowra VDC)

Duration : Two Years 01 April 2002 - 31 Dec 2005 (2nd Phase)
