LI-BIRD's new Research & Development Strategy 2012-16 focuses on rural poor and marginalized farmers PDF Print E-mail

LI-BIRD is pleased to release the summary document of its new Research
& Development Strategy 2012-16.

LI-BIRD is a non-profit making organization based in Pokhara, Nepal
committed to capitalizing on local initiatives for sustainable
management of natural resources and agricultural biodiversity in order
to improve the livelihoods of rural poor and marginalized farmers,
especially women.

In this strategy, LI-BIRD will work to bring positive and lasting
transformation in the lives of the rural poor and marginal smallholder
farmers, especially women, who depend primarily on agriculture,
biodiversity and natural resources for their livelihoods.

LI-BIRD's work will be framed under three programmes: i) Agricultural
Innovations for Livelihood Security, ii) Biodiversity and Ecosystem
Services for Sustainable Livelihoods and iii) Community Resilience to
Climate Change. These programmes will be supported and informed by
three cross-cutting themes: i) Social Research and Policy Advocacy for
Inclusive Impacts, ii) Gender Equity and Social Inclusion, and iii)
Knowledge Management and Capacity Building for Wider Impacts.

This strategy was prepared by a process of extended deliberations and
consultations among staffs, LI-BIRD members and partners.
