Supporting Gandaki Provincial Government for Climate Compatible Agriculture Development

Nepal has introduced a three tier structure of federal government (federal, province and local) and these federal government structures are taking initiatives to invest in sustainable development preparing own policies, plans and mobilizing their resources. The newly established Gandaki Province has initiated ‘Chief Minister Environment Friendly Model Agriculture Village Programme’ (CMEFMAVP) led by Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperative (MoLMAC). LI-BIRD has provided technical assistance support to develop operational guidelines for the implementation of CMEFMAVP which has been endorsed by Provincial Government. LI-BIRD is implementing a project “Supporting Gandaki Provincial Government for Climate Compatible Agriculture Development” through ICLEI South Asia, on its partnership with CDKN.  The overall objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of provincial and local government through providing customized knowledge-based support services for mainstreaming Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices. It aims to address the knowledge-based demand of the CMEFMAVP through capacity building of CMEFMAVP staffs, women law-makers and elected leaders by providing trainings and producing knowledge products such as Climate Smart Agriculture training manuals, and good practices flyers to be used by the provincial and local government.   The project is being implemented in Hardiya village of Madhyabindu municipality, Nawalpur, Paudur village of Annapurna Rural Municipality, Kaski and Tallo Kudule village of Phedikhola Rural Municipality, Syangja.
