Strengthening Civil Society Organization (CSO) and Community Response to Climate Change in Nepal (SCRC)
Climate change is a burning issue heating the entire globe today. The climate extremes associated with changing climate has increased uncertainty in the livelihoods of people of the world. Nepal is one of the most vulnerable countries to the impact of climate change. To address this Government of Nepal has initiated different initiatives with NAPA, LAPA framework and Climate Change policy 2011. To address the impact of changing climate and effective implementation of these initiatives the role of civil society organization (CSO) is most. To support this need Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) is implementing Strengthening Civil Society Organization (CSO) and Community Response to Climate Change (SCRC) project from 2008 with the support from Development Fund Norway.
The goal of this project is to increase the Adaptive capacity of climate vulnerable groups of Nepal through proper climate policies at national and local level. The project is implemented through NGO Network on Climate Change (NGONCC). The network has one central secretariat hosted by LI-BIRD and 5 regional secretariats hosted by NCDC-Ilam, ECCA-Kathmandu, SAHAMATI-Nawalparasi, DWO-Banke, and YAC Nepal-Kailali.
The main objective of the project is policy advocacy & capacity building of civil society organizations on climate change and reducing the vulnerability of climate vulnerable communities (CVC). Besides the project also give emphasis on promotion and scaling up the community based climate change adaption technologies in the country.
