Humla Development Initiative (HDI)

Humla is among the five least well off districts of Nepal in all indicators of poverty and food security. The majority of people (94%) still do not have sufficient agricultural production to eat for a whole year and therefore, the district chronically suffers from food deficit, under nutrition, poor health and other associated problems.

This project is therefore aimed to increase food production and to improve socio-economic condition of the people of Humla particularly by empowering people and their local institutions in sustainable agriculture and livestock farming, home gardening and through increasing access to on-farm income generation options such as fresh vegetables production, crop seed production and introduction of suitable animal breeds to supplement family nutrition.
