LI-BIRD and Bioversity International are pleased to announce the launching of ‘Bhuwon Ratna Sthapit Fellowship for Agro-biodiversity’. This Fellowship will be managed jointly by LI-BIRD and Bioversity International. The Fellowship will be open to young scientists in Nepal, South and South-East Asia, to honor late Bhuwon Ratna Sthapit, PhD for his dedication and contribution in the field of agrobiodiversity and participatory approaches.

Bhuwon’s family feel honored and fully support the Fellowship. Having Nepal specific award is important for the family, but having the regional award is also important for them because it recognizes the contribution of Bhuwon's work that extends well beyond Nepal.

We wish this Fellowship to continue for many years. Dr. Devra I. Jarvis (Principal Scientist, Bioversity International) is taking the lead for raising funds internationally, and portion of this fund will be available to support Nepal specific Fellowship. LI-BIRD is taking the lead for raising funds locally. As of now, we have been able to raise fund of over NPR 2.9 million in support of Nepal specific Fellowship.

The main purpose of Nepal specific Fellowship is to expose and build the capacity of young Nepali researchers to the level of national, regional or international scientist. We believe that this Fellowship will help cement Bhuwon’s legacy by supporting aspirant Nepali researchers to pursue studies of their interest.

Through this memo, we now invite interested individuals, organizations and networks to contribute to this noble cause. We have set up a separate account for the purpose. Interested contributors are requested to use the following Bank Account:
